Coffee Story: A washed processed red bourbon from Mbilima, Rwanda. Coffees from a single producer in Rwanda are almost impossible to find, since for the most part it is not practical to divvy up coffee from hundreds of different farmers at washing stations. Andre has a massive farm, which made it easier to separate his coffee. He also farms completely organically, which makes for an incredibly sweet and vibrant cup.
Single producer lots like Andre Hakizimana’s are incredibly rare in Rwanda. Traceability is usually limited to the washing station, where they receive coffee cherries from hundreds of farmers in the area. The processing of this lot individually is possible because Andre’s farm is unusually large, with around 10x the coffee trees you would find on a typical farm. Andre is a founding member (and former president) of the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative that operates three washing stations, including Mblima where this organic lot was processed. This incredibly delicious coffee is a testament to Andre’s four decades of experience growing coffee in Rwanda. We’ve roasted it for filter to highlight its syrupy nectarine sweetness.
