Coffee Story: A washed processed coffee from La Berlina Estate, located in the region of Horqueta in Boquete, Panama. The estate was founded in the early 1900s by Mr Segundo Diaz, a Colombian soldier who was sent to fight in Panama’s separatist uprising. After falling in love with Boquete, Mr Diaz stayed on after independence was formed, to start a family. The Diaz family discovered several wild typica coffee trees growing in the nearby mountainous jungle, and established a 30-hectare estate with a sugar cane mill, corn fields and livestock. The Diaz family were forced to sell their estate in the 1930’s and it lay dormant until it was later taken over by Mr Plinio Ruiz. The Ruiz family has had great success with the estate, producing some of Panama’s highest quality coffee. Grown in rich, volcanic soil at an altitude of 1,500-2,000 masl, La Berlina’s sweet flavours of marmalade and lingering chocolate finish make for a perfect espresso.
