Origin: Costa Rica
Tasting Notes: Grape, mandarin, lime
Coffee Story: In the cup: Just popping a bag of this coffee, one knows they are in for something super fine indeed. Cupping at 90+, complexity and balance sing in perfect harmony. A medley of grapes blend with mandarin, lime and raspberry. This flavour then shifts as its delicate body carries sweet caramel which transitions to a lingering malt finish. We are blown away by the sparkle of citrus from this cup and are discounting this super special microlot (over 30% off!!) to share it with as many people as possible.
The producers: Beneficio Las Lajas is owned and operated by third generation coffee producers Francisca and Oscar. Before 2006, Oscar and Francisca focused on growing coffee, but then in an effort to spend more time with their family and start to build something for their children, they began to experiment with processing micolots– exploring and refining already established and successful honey processing techniques that this region is famous for. Oscar and Francisca’s coffees have gone from strength to strength, with demand for their coffees soaring across the international specialty coffee market. From an initial output of just 25 bags, the Las Lajas farm now exports a current volume of around 2000 bags. Yet Francisca and Oscar’s farm remains at its core a family business, with their four children (all specialty coffee aficionados) continuing to visit and help the farm during the busy coffee harvest season.
