Description: Doña Brenda Pinzon has followed her parents into coffee, and began producing on her own ten years ago. Her parents acquired Finca Yabari 30 years ago, and in 2011 her father began planting anew. When he passed away, Brenda inherited the farm and hired Jarvey Steves and his family, to help her take care of Finca Yabari. Doña Brenda now lives away from the farm and visits frequently.
Finca Yabari is located in the Tolu village in the municipality of La Mesa, at 1.300 meters above sea level. The farm has 9.100 Castillo trees intercropped with plantain and citrus, both for shade and consumption. Prior to joining the Neighbors & Crops program at La Palma y El Tucan, Brenda experienced difficulties processing her coffee. Just like many small farmers without proper wet mill infrastructure, she was therefore reliant on expertise from outside. LPyET’s program helps growers like Doña Brenda by ensuring that processing is completed to a very high standard, allowing her farm manager to focus exclusively on soil health and plant development.
